May 12th, 2023

My visit to India is incomplete without visiting Sri Harmindar Sahib Ji (Golden Temple) and Punjab Naatshala. It is always an honor to meet Sardar Jatinder Brar Ji, a beacon of passion, who consistently inspires with his energy and demonstrates how dedication to one’s passion can create a positive impact on society. Few lines on the passion and creation of wonder by Sardar Brar Ji.

In the land of Amritsar, where dreams take flight,

There lies Punjab Naatshala, a beacon of light.

Once a humble workshop, now a stage so grand,

Where art and technology unite, hand in hand.

Jatinder Brar, The man with a vision,

Crafted this haven with unwavering precision.

With a click, the roof opens, revealing the sky,

A stage that revolves, bringing tales nearby.

A platform rises, levels of drama unfold,

Creating a world where stories are told.

A place where art and technology rejoice.

Jatinder Brar, the maestro behind the scenes,

Weaving magic through performances and dreams.

Through the years, this auditorium has thrived,

A platform for artists, where talents have arrived.

Jatinder Brar’s dedication, an eternal flame,

Fostering creativity, theatre’s precious name.

Let us applaud Punjab Naatshala’s glory,

A testament to Jatinder Brar’s remarkable story.

A haven of theatre, where dreams unfurl,

Punjab Naatshala, the heart of the theatrical world.

Journey of Punjab Naatshala

Nestled amidst the serene outskirts of Amritsar, Punjab Naatshala stands as a testament to the harmonious blending of art and technology. Once a workshop manufacturing harvesting equipment, this humble factory has been transformed into a state-of-the-art theatre hall. Led by Sardar Jatinder Brar Ji, a passionate theatre enthusiast and engineer, Punjab Naatshala offers a unique and technically advanced space for theatrical productions. From its innovative design to its cutting-edge features, the auditorium has become a thriving hub for artists and audiences alike.

A Fusion of Design and Technology:

I am always impressed with the passion of Sardar Jatinder Brar Ji, the visionary behind Punjab Naatshala.  With a click of a remote, the roof of the auditorium opens, transforming it into an open-air arena. The stage itself is a marvel, complete with a revolving mechanism that effortlessly transports the audience to different worlds within minutes. Additionally, a 12-foot platform can be raised behind the stage, providing directors with opportunities to play with levels and create captivating visuals.

Passion Drives Creation:

Sardar Jatinder Brar’s journey with Punjab Naatshala began as a child when he would use the factory premises for rehearsals. Later in life, he realized that theatre was his true calling. Determined to create a space where he and other theatre enthusiasts could pursue their passion without relying on others, Brar set aside 2,250 square yards for Punjab Naatshala. In 1998, on World Theatre Day, the doors of the Naatshala opened to the public, and since then, it has been hosting plays every weekend, becoming one of the few ticketed theatres in the region.

Punjab Naatshala stands as a beacon of creativity and innovation in Amritsar, embodying the harmonious union of art and technology. Through the dedicated efforts of its founder, Sardar Jatinder Brar Ji, and the collaborative spirit of theatre professionals from across the country, the auditorium has become a thriving center for artistic expression. With its impressive features, Punjab Naatshala continues to captivate audiences and provide a nurturing environment for both established and emerging talents.
