Ajuba Joins Forces with the American Semiconductor Innovation Coalition to Drive Next-Gen Chip Technologies

Press Note | January, 29th, 2024

Ajuba is proud to announce its partnership with the American Semiconductor Innovation Coalition (ASIC). This collaboration represents a significant step forward in the quest to accelerate American semiconductor research, development, and manufacturing.

The ASIC, a coalition comprising businesses, startups, universities, national labs, and nonprofits, is dedicated to fostering advancements in semiconductor technology. The coalition plays a pivotal role in supporting The National Semiconductor Technology Center and The National Advanced Packaging Manufacturing Program.

Background and Significance

The semiconductor industry forms the backbone of modern life, influencing everything from consumer electronics to national security. The ongoing global chip shortage has underscored the critical need for sustained domestic investment in semiconductor research and development.

Ajuba’s entry into ASIC is aligned with a nationwide effort to fortify America’s semiconductor capabilities, ensuring its global competitiveness and security. The coalition’s focus on research, development, prototyping, and manufacturing will address the current semiconductor supply chain disruptions and contribute to the nation’s growth.

Technical Agenda

The technical agenda of this collaboration will revolve around four key axes:

1. Manufacturing Research: Emphasis on next-generation nanosheet logic technology, interconnect scaling, advanced memory scaling, and analog/mixed-signal technology. The goal is to establish a domestic, open, and precompetitive infrastructure, incorporating advanced characterization, instrumentation, and testing.

2. Packaging Research: The development of a next-generation heterogeneous open chiplet ecosystem and 3D integration, including optical and 6G mmWave integration. This effort aims to achieve high-density interconnectivity between chiplets, incorporating open standards.

3. Design Research: Focus on chip/package co-optimization, the development of electronic design automation (EDA) tools, and the integration of AI/ML methods for enhanced design productivity and quality.

4. Demonstration and Prototyping: Validating novel approaches for industry consumption through multi-project wafer (MPW) runs and early user hardware. This includes partnerships with commercial manufacturers and the provision of a full suite of leading-edge, industry-relevant 300mm processing, testing, and failure analysis tools.

Ajuba’s expertise in strategy, business development, and innovation positions it as a valuable contributor to ASIC’s mission. By collaborating on these crucial axes, the coalition aims to secure a steady supply of chips, fortify America’s leadership in chip research, and mitigate the disruptions caused by the current semiconductor shortage.

Baljit Singh, CEO of Ajuba, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “Joining ASIC is an exciting opportunity for Ajuba to contribute to the advancement of semiconductor technologies in the U.S. We look forward to leveraging our global network and expertise to drive innovation and resilience in the semiconductor industry.”

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Ajuba’s journey towards fostering innovation and sustainable solutions in the semiconductor landscape.
